Like Feld's 2011 board game, Castles of Burgundy: The Dice Game puts players in the role of sovereigns of the early Renaissance trying to grow and expand their domains. Each round, the dice are rolled and each player chooses a “number” die and a “color” die from the common pool to claim spaces on the board. Each space requires a certain combination of number and color to claim, and completing groups of identically colored spaces grant bonuses that allow the player to modify future die rolls. Meanwhile the “timer” die triggers events and special actions.
Castles of Burgundy: The Dice Game comes with 5 dice and 4 different board layouts. It is intended for 1 to 4 players, ages 12 and up, and takes less than an hour to play. MSRP is $14.99.Ravensburger recently released the English version of Knizia’s The Quest for El Dorado (see “Ravensburger Brings ‘The Quest for El Dorado’ to U.S.”).
