Catan Histories: Rise of the Inkas takes the familiar mechanics and style of the original Settlers of Catan and transports it to ancient Peru. As the leaders of indigenous societies, the players guide the development of their tribes Catan-style, building roads, settlements, and cities. But old cultures fall away, and twice during the game each player must “decline” their tribe, removing their roads and covering their settlements with vines to show the encroaching jungle. The old settlements still produce, but can now be taken over by a competitor. The first player to fully advance their third tribe wins the game.

In addition to this parade of civilizations, Rise of the Inkas modifies the familiar “Longest Road” and “Largest Band of Warriors” mechanics and introduces new ways for players to trade goods though the sea and jungle areas.
This stand-alone game was designed by Catan creator Klaus Teuber and his son Benjamin Teuber. It is intended for 3 or 4 players, ages 12 and up, and takes about 90 minutes to play. MSRP
A number of Catan spin-off projects have been in the works, including a digital adventure game (see “‘Catan’ Adventure Game, ‘Munchkin’ Digital, ‘Pokemon Go’ Company Plans ‘Harry Potter’ AR Game, Much More!”), an edible version of the game (see “Wood, Grain, Sheep, Stone… Chocolate?”), and even a movie (see “‘Catan’ Headed for Big Screen”).
