Top Cow President and COO Matt Hawkins revealed the return of The Darkness via Twitter. Details on the relaunch are scant, but Hawkins shared a sketch by Tom Grindberg (Daredevil), the artist he is working with to resurrect The Darkness. Hawkins declared that Jackie Estacado, the Mafioso who inherited the curse of the Darkness in the original series, will make an appearance, but "maybe not in the role you expect.” Former Witchblade-bearer Sara Pezzini will also have a part to play in the series.

The Darkness was created by Marc Silvestri, Garth Ennis, and David Wohl. The first series kicked off in 1996 and ran for 25 issues, and the most recent ongoing series (see "Top Cow's 'Rebirth' Comes to 'The Darkness'") wrapped in 2013 with issue #116. Top Cow has released a handful of one shots since then. The comics inspired video games (see “'The Darkness II' Follows Million Seller”), and the series has flirted with a cinematic adaptation (see “'The Darkness' Movie Back on Track”).

Top Cow also recently resurrected Witchblade  (see “Witchblade Returns”).
