Plaid Hat Games’ adventure miniatures game property Mice and Mystics is in final negotiations with DreamWorks Animation for movie rights, Variety is reporting.

Alexandre Aja(Horns, The Hills Have Eyes, High Tension) is attached to direct, as well as co-write the script with David Leslie Johnson, who has writing credits on Aquaman, several episodes of The Walking Dead, and has worked on the screenplay for the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie. Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Jon Berg are set to produce.

Designed by Jerry Hawthorne (Stuffed Fables, Tail Feathers), Mice and Mystics was first published in 2012 by Plaid Hat Games (see “Four Games You May Have Missed”), and has since added two expansions, The Heart of Glorm and Downwood Tales; as well as a spinoff title, Tail Feathers, set in the same universe (see “Articulated Game Minis, 'Dead of Winter' Expansion, Fast-Selling Gen Con Release”). In the game, players take the role of loyal to the king, who have chosen to be truned into mice to continue to fight the evil Vanestra. Players work cooperatively to ward off countless terrors (rats, cockroaches, the castle’s cat Brodie) to reach the king and warn him of Vanestra’s plan, and also find her weaknesses to defeat her.

Plaid Hat was acquired by F2Z Entertainment  in 2015 (see “Z-Man Parent Buys Plaid Hat”), and then in 2016, F2Z was sold to Asmodee (see “Asmodee Acquiring F2Z Entertainment”).
