DC Comics has announced the October 1, 2019 publication of The Secret Spiral of Swamp Kid (MSRP $9.99), an original graphic novel written and illustrated by Kirk Scroggs.  DC will publish The Secret Spiral of Swamp Kid under its new middle school DC Zoom imprint (see “DC Zoom and Ink Imprints”).  The DC Zoom and DC Ink imprints feature standalone stories that are not part of the ongoing DC continuity.

In The Secret Spiral of Swamp Kid Scroggs uses the format of the spiral notebook of disaffected middle schooler Russell Weinwright, an excessive doodler, who is named “Swamp Kid” by his peers because he has algae for hair, a tree trunk for a right arm, and a parsnip for a thumb. The illustrated notebook/diary-like format is a popular one with middle school readers (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, etc.). See the Gallery below for samples of Scroggs art.

The first DC Zoom title, Super Sons: The Polarshield Project by Ridley Pearson and Ile Gonzalez, will debut in April, 2019.
