Marvel Comics will launch Marvels Snapshots, a series of eight standalone, double-sized issues, in March.  Marvels writer Kurt Busiek will bring together creative teams for each issue, which like Marvels, will look at the characters and history of the Marvel Universe as seen through the eyes of ordinary people.

Sub-Mariner: Marvels Snapshots #1 will be written by novelist and Emmy Award-winning TV writer Alan Brennert (L.A. Law, Twilight Zone), and feature art by Jerry Ordway (All-Star Squadron, Crisis on Infinite Earths).  Sub-Mariner will be set circa World War II and feature Namor, Betty Dean, and the All-Winners Squad.

Alex Ross will provide covers for the series.

Note:  This article originally reported that Busiek was co-writing the series, based on Marvel-provided information that the story was written by Alan Brennert "with Kurt Busiek." After this article was posted, Busiek described his role as curation and editing, and said that he did not want a writing credit.

"I think Marvel is listing me in solicits as '…with Kurt Busiek' to try to get at the role of curation, but they don’t have a 'curator' slot in their solicit listings," he wrote on Twitter. "So I’m very much a part of it, involved in the stories all the way through. But I don’t want to take... ...proper credit away from the writers, who were invited in because they’re terrific and who deserve the writer credit themselves."

We've now corrected our description of Busiek's role. -- ed.

Busiek and Ross returned to their Marvels series this past summer with Marvels Epilogue (see "Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross’ ‘Marvels’ Returns").
