We round up geek TV announcements from the past few days.
Apple will stream new Fraggle Rock shorts free on Apple TV Plus, according to Variety. The three to five minute episodes (teaser below) are being produced by The Jim Henson company on iPhone 11s from the homes of the production team and artists. The series title is Fraggle Rock: Rock On! BOOM! Studios has the comics.
Marvel has cut ties with two showrunners under force majeure terms in their contracts, according to Hollywood Reporter, as studios start to respond to the coronavirus crisis with permanent deal changes. The two are Steve Lightfoot, who made The Punisher for Netflix, and Paul Zbyszewski, who’s just finishing up Helstrom for Hulu, Marvel Television’s last show before the Feige takeover (see “Marvel Television Shutting Down”).
Netflix has commissioned All of Us Are Dead, a new original series based on the Korean webtoon Now at Our School, with director Lee JQ. It will be produced by South Korean JTBC Studios in association with Film Monster.
Warner Bros. will release the DC Universe Harley Quinn animated series, which premiered on the streaming service last November (see “’Harley Quinn’ Drops F-Bombs in New Animated Trailer”), on DVD on June 2. The series has a big-time voice cast, including Kaley Cuoco in the title role, Jason Alexander, Tony Hale, J.B. Smoove, Alan Tudyk, and Wanda Sykes, among others. MSRP is $24.98. TV rights for Killadelphia: Sins of the Father, the Image comic series due to be collected into a graphic novel in June, have been acquired by Levantine Films, according to Deadline. Series writer Rodney Barnes will adapt for TV and produce. Barnes wrote and produced The Boondocks, Everybody Hates Chris, Marvel’s Runaways, and American Gods, among others. Series artist is Jason Shawn Alexander, best known for Spawn.Rick and Morty will return for its fourth season on May 3, Adult Swim announced. While the heat is off after the long gap before Season 3, the show still has a big audience and importance as a licensing property.
