Heritage Auctions will be putting the finest-known copy of Batman #1 on the auction block at their Comics & Art Signature Auction on January 14-17 in Dallas, Texas.
HA is starting off 2021 by putting several quality graded comic book up on their block in January, but none are of higher quality than the gem of a Batman #1 that is being offered. They are auctioning off the finest-known copy of Batman #1, which has never been sold at auction prior. It is the only copy of Batman #1 to ever receive a CGC grade of a 9.4 with white pages, and based on the recent sale of a CGC 7.0 Detective Comics #27 (see "Breaking News: Hammer Drops on 'Detective Comics #27' at a Record $1.5 million"), this auction will likely hit the coveted million dollar mark. The closest estimate to this copy of Batman #1 is a 9.2 copy that sold in 2012 for a record $850,000 (see "'Batman' #1 Sells for $850K").
Alongside the Batman #1, HA is also putting up another bucket list comic book for collectors, a CGC 8.5 Captain America Comics #1. While not as impressive as the CGC 9.4 Captain America Comics #1 that went for $915,000 in 2019 (see "'Captain America' #1 Gets Record Price at Heritage Auction"), there are only three known copies of this book graded at CGC 8.5 and only six known that are graded higher. With the collectibles market being red hot going into the end of 2020 (see "Tallying Up the Action From Heritage's November Comics and Art Signature Auction"), there may be a few positive surprises with the bidding action on this comic.
