Ablaze will publish three graphic novels by the Italian cartoonist Zerocalcare in 2022. Zerocalcare (real name: Michele Rech) is one of the top selling cartoonists in Italy and the creator of the animated series Tear Along the Dotted Line, which will premiere on Netflix on November 17.

Ablaze will publish Zerocalcare’s Forget My Name on March 9, 2022, followed by Tentacles at My Throat and The Armadillo Prophecy later in the year.

Forget My Name recounts Zerocalcare’s reaction to the passing of his grandmother and the family secrets that were uncovered in the aftermath of her death. The book has sold over 150,000 copies in Europe and was one of only two graphic novels to ever make the shortlist for Italy’s Strega literary award. Ablaze will publish Forget My Name as a 240-page black and white hardcover with an MSRP of $19.99.

Tentacles at My Throat is a coming-of-age story about Zerocalcare’s time in school, and The Armadillo Prophecy is a collection of interrelated short stories. 

Zerocalcare is also the creator of Kobane Calling, published in English by Lion Forge in 2017 (see “New OGN Examines the Syrian Civil War”), which recounts his experiences in the Kurdish-majority city on the border between Turkey and Syria that was under siege by ISIS at the time of his visit.
