Random House Graphic has announced it will publish four Sweet Valley Twins graphic novels based on the novels by Francine Pascal. Senior Editor Whitney Leopard will oversee the series. The first volume, Sweet Valley Twins: Best Friends, by writer Nicole Andelfinger and artist Claudia Aguirre, will be released on November 1, 2022, with an MSRP of $20.99 for the hardcover edition and $13.99 for the paperback. The second volume, Teacher’s Pet, is scheduled for 2023. The books are rated for ages 8 to 12.

First published in 1986 as a middle-school spinoff of the Sweet Valley High YA novel series, the Sweet Valley Twins books follow identical twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield as they deal with friendship, crushes, and growing pains. In Best Friends, they are just starting middle school, and the opportunity for new beginnings also raises the possibility of new conflicts, as the girls’ personalities are as different as their looks are similar.

Dynamite published an original Sweet Valley High graphic novel in 2019 (see “Dynamite’s ‘Sweet Valley High’ Graphic Novel Due in June”).

Andelfinger is the writer for BOOM! Studios’ A Thief Among the Trees and A Spark in the Forge, two graphic novel prequels to Sabaa Tahir’s fantasy novel series Ember in the Ashes (see “BOOM! to Publish Prequel to Bestselling Fantasy Novel Trilogy”). Aguirre is the artist for Lifetime Passes, written by Terry Blas (see “Abrams ComicArts Fall 2021”), and she previously collaborated with him on the middle-grade graphic novel Hotel Dare.
