Japanese manga publishing and entertainment company Kadokawa Corporation has reached an agreement to acquire Japanese tabletop game publisher, retailer, and show organizer Arclight Games, the companies announced.
Arclight publishes the Japanese editions of games from other countries, as well as original games, some of which are licensed to U.S. publishers for release here, often by Japanime Games (see “More Romance for ‘Tanto Cuore’”). Arclight also is the organizer of tabletop game show Game Market and operates 32 Hobby Station tabletop game stores in Japan. Arclight will operate as a subsidiary of Kadokawa going forward.
Kadokawa’s goals in making the acquisition are to expand the creation of tabletop games based on its manga and light novel publishing properties and the creation of publishing based on tabletop game properties.
Kadokawa’s business is centered on manga and light novel publishing in Japan, but it has also made acquisitions in North America, including Anime News Network (see “Kadokawa to Acquire Anime News Network”), and a majority stake in Yen Press (see “Kadokawa Buys Majority Stake in Yen Press”).
