Vault Comics is launching its Headshell imprint, featuring graphic novels by musicians, with Dying Inside by Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, and ICv2 has exclusive images of three of the deluxe cover treatments.
Dying Inside, by Wentz, co-writer Hannah Klein, and artist Lisa Sterle, features a 16-year-old girl, Ash, who has decided to commit suicide but is thwarted when the special knife she buys from the internet to do the deed comes with an unexpected bonus: immortality. She teams up with the witch who put that spell on the knife to defeat it, but other factors are in play as well. The book includes original lyrics and poetry by Wentz, and the official playlist on Spotify includes original music by the band Daisy Grenade written specially for this project. The graphic novel will be previewed in Vault's Free Comic Book Day comic.
The softcover trade edition of Dying Inside will be on September 17, 2024, in bookstores and September 18 in the Direct Market, with an MSRP of $19.99. Vault is also offering deluxe editions and other merch direct to consumer from its website. These include a hardcover edition ($49.99), a Deluxe Edition ($74.99), a slipcased Collectors Edition ($149.99), and three special color treatments, seen here for the first time: Dark Mode ($59.99), Glitter ($69.99), and Glow-in-the-Dark ($79.99). Other merch, also available direct from the site, includes T-shirts, headphones, stickers, temporary tattoos, and a pin.
Vault announced the Headshell imprint in November 2022 (see “Vault Launching Music Imprint for Graphic Novels”), with plans to offer standard, deluxe, and collectors editions, with each title launching first via direct sale and then through standard trade channels.
