A ton of spicy Hollywood news dropped at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, and it's time to round it up!

Deadpool & Wolverine grossed $205 million, the biggest R-rated opening in history, and the 8th best opening weekend of all time, according to Variety.  Adding in the $233.3 million the movie grossed in international markets, the film took in a massive $438 million in its first weekend.  Less is definitely more; Deadpool & Wolverine is the only MCU release planned for 2024.

Marvel Studios unveiled their casting choice for Doctor Doom at SDCC 2024 in Hall H.  Robert Downey Jr. will make his return to the MCU to play Doctor Doom (see below) in both Avengers: Secret Wars (May 2026) and Avengers: Doomsday (May 2027).  Downey Jr. had previously played Tony Stark/Iron Man in MCU movies from 2008 to 2019, and stepped away after Avengers: Endgame (see "Avengers: Endgame").  Both of these new Avengers movies will be directed by the Russo brothers (see “Russo Bros. Back”).

Marvel Studios also released the title of the new Fantastic Four movie at SDCC 2024.  The movie will be titled The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and director Matt Shakman confirmed that the movie will have a "retro-future 60s" aesthetic, as hinted at previously by key art (see "FF4 Key Art").

Amazon dropped a new trailer for Rings of Power Season 2 (see below).  This series returns to streaming on August 29, 2024 (see "Rings of Power S2").

Paramount+ unveiled two new Star Trek trailers, one for Section 31 and a teaser for Strange New Worlds Season 3 (see below).  Section 31 is the original Paramount+ movie starring Michelle Yeoh that was announced back in 2023 (see "Section 31").

Max unleashed an official trailer for The Penguin series (see below).  This series starts streaming on September 19, 2024 (see "The Penguin").

Amazon announced Vought Rising, a new series in The Boys franchise, according to Variety.  This series will take place in 1950s New York, and bring Jensen Ackles back as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash back as Stormfront.  Ackles also confirmed that he will return to The Boys for their final season (see "'The Boys' to End") as Soldier Boy, after his cameo in the final episode of Season 4.
