Skybound and Image Publishing have signed a multi-year global distribution deal with Scott Dunbier’s Act 4 Publishing, with the first titles, Jim Aparo’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition and Darwyn Cooke’s The Complete Spirit Connoisseur Edition, launching in September and October 2025, respectively.

Act 4’s lineup will include single-issue comics, Artist’s Editions, and a new format, Connoisseur Editions. Artist’s Editions, originated by Dunbier for IDW in 2010 (see “‘The Rocketeer: Artist’s Edition’”), reproduce the original black and white art for a comic at full size, scanned in color so that all the ink gradients, blue-pencil marks, and corrections are visible. The new Connoisseur Editions will be deluxe, oversized slipcased hardcovers with premium finishes that collect an entire comic series. They are designed to be both readable and immersive.

Jim Aparo’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition will include 175 pages of Aparo’s art featuring Batman  and The Spectre, including eight complete stories from The Brave and the Bold and four from Adventure Comics, as well as covers and additional pages. It will be available at comic shops on September 17, 2025, and in bookstores on September 30 with an MSRP of $150.

Darwyn Cooke’s The Complete Spirit Connoisseur Edition will collect The Spirit #1-6, #8-12, and the Batman/The Spirit one-shot, along with additional drawings, a cover gallery, and an introduction by Cooke collaborator J. Bone. The designer is Sean Phillips, who designed the Eisner-winning Richard Stark’s Parker: The Martini Edition - Last Call, and The Complete Spirit will have a similar format. It will be released to comic shops on October 8, 2025, and to bookstores on October 21, with an MSRP of $100.

Dunbier announced in 2024 that he was striking off on his own to form a new publishing company, Act 4 (see “Two Publishers and a Universe to Launch at Comic-Con”), and he revealed more details at the ICv2 Insider Talks at New York Comic Con (see “ICv2 Insider Talks”).
