Glynnis Fawkes' 'Charlotte Bronte Before Jane Eyre' (Disney-Hyperion) follows the daily life of the Brontë siblings as they move from childhood to young adulthood always teetering on the edge of genteel poverty. Fans of 'Jane Eyre' will recognize much of Brontë's source material in the schools she attended as a young girl and taught at as a young woman, but even those who haven't read it will find a lot to like in the story of a young woman who struggles to be taken seriously, and even to take herself seriously, as a writer.
