Diamond Select, the toy making affiliate of Diamond Comic Distributors has signed an agreement to create statues, die-cast cars, and action figures based on the anime properties controlled in the U.S by Central Park Media. Diamond Select will have the rights to make resins and action figures based on properties like Project A-Ko, MD Geist, Pin-Up Beauties, Geobreeder, and Demon City Shinjuku, to name just a few of Central Park's many anime licenses. The first products that Diamond Select is working on will be based on Project A-Ko and MD Geist. Look for products to be announced in the next issue of Diamond's Previews catalog.
Diamond Select has been very aggressive in seeking licenses. In recent months Diamond has inked agreements with Marvel (see 'Marvel Inks Licensing Agreement with Diamond Select') as well as with the license holders for vintage properties like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Peter Cottontail (see 'Rabbit Seasoning'). Signing with Central Park Media gives Diamond Select an opportunity to expand its offerings into the lucrative market for anime/manga-related toys. Diamond Comic Distributors has agreements with most of the leading Japanese toy companies and imports lots of anime-related toys each month. Now Diamond Select will be able to add to the already considerable anime and manga related items in Previews with an anime-themed product line of its own.
