For the second year, Hasbro and Nintendo are joining up to create a mash-up of games.  This time it will be the Monopoly Gamer:  Mario Kart Edition.  The new game will be available exclusively at GameStop starting this month and will be released into general distribution this fall.

Like the original Monopoly Gamer (see “Super Mario Characters Appear in ‘Monopoly Gamer’”), modifies the classic game of real estate speculation by adding characters from a popular Nintendo game.  Four Mario Kart characters can be chosen:  Mario himself, Princess Peach, Luigi, and Toad.  Each character token has unique abilities that its player can use to help get an edge in the game.  Other elements of Mario Kart also appear in this version, including banana peels to dodge, shells to toss at other racers, and a Super Star space that can activate special abilities.  Even the venerable “passing GO” has been changed:  it now triggers a special race between the players, who compete for the valuable “Grand Prix” card.

Monopoly Gamer:  Mario Kart Edition comes with 1 game board, 4 Mario Kart character tokens, 4 character cards, 4 reminder cards, 16 Title Deed cards, 5 Banana tokens, 1 numbered die, 1 Power-Up die, and 90 coins.  The game is intended for 2 to 4 players, ages 8 and up.  MSRP is $24.99.

The game will also be supported with Power Pack expansions this fall, which will allow players to add additional characters to the game, including Bowser, Rosalina, Shy Guy, Metal Mario, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi.
