Two war-themed strategy games from Matagot are coming to the U.S. through Asmodee this month:  Oeuf Cube Edition’s  Napoleon Saga:  Waterloo and Devil Pig Games’ Heroes of Normandie:  Big Red 1 Edition.

Napoleon Saga:  Waterloo is a two-player card-based game that recreates the pivotal battle of the Napoleonic Era and the 1815 campaign that led up to it.  The cards in the game represent the troops and the strategic resources that each side had available during the war between the French army and the Seventh Coalition.  Victory is achieved by defeating enemy units as well as completing secret objectives.  The game can be played historically, or players can create their own battles.

The game was created by Frederic Romero in 2019.  It is intended for 2 players, ages 14 and up, and plays in about an hour.  MSRP is $44.99.

Heroes of Normandie:  Big Red 1 Edition is the updated version of Devil Pig Games’ Origins Award-winning World War II board game (see “2015 Origins Award Winners”).  Inspired by Hollywood’s war movies, Heroes of Normandie pits German and American soldiers against each other in platoon-scale conflicts.  Players use their markers to outbluff and outmaneuver their opponent, while cards allow them to recreate heroic moments like those depicted in the movies.

Launched in 2013,  Heroes of Normadie was the brain-child of French designers Yann and Clem.  The game was previously offered through Iello  (see “Iello Reveals Fall Releases”).  It also spawned a Cthulhu-themed horror set (see “‘Shadows over Normandie’”) and a Warhammer 40,000 science fiction version (see “Iello to Release ‘Heroes of Black Reach’ in U.S.”) as well as numerous expansions and a Russian Front starter set (see “From Hanging Gardens to Urban Warfare for Iello”).

Intended for 2 or more players, ages 14 and up.  Scenarios take about an hour to play.  MSRP is $59.99.

Earlier this year, Matagot announced the fighting game Yucatan (see “Matagot Reveals ‘Yucatan’”).
