Hip Hop Family Tree started as a webcomic on BoingBoing and then was picked up by Fantagraphics, which published the first three volumes and serialized the fourth in magazine-format issues before collecting them in a single volume. They also issued the first and second volumes as a box set with a bonus comic (see “‘Hip Hop Family Tree’ Vol. 2”). Volume 2 of the series won the 2015 Eisner Award for Best Reality-Based Work, and the first and third volumes were nominated in that category as well.
Fantagraphics also announced Red Room: Crypto Killaz, a new four-issue miniseries by Piskor that’s a followup to his splatterpunk series Red Room (see “Fantagraphics to Publish Ed Piskor’s ‘Red Room’”). The series will include variant covers by Peach Momoko and Jim Rugg.
