Titan Manga has announced three new manga licenses: The Poetry of Ran, by Spider-Man: Fake Red creator Yusuke Ozawa; The Great Yokai War: Guardians, the manga adaptation of the 2021 film of the same name; and Tengen Hero Wars, an action/fantasy manga about a battle royale among the greatest warriors of history.
Spider-Man: Fake Red was announced in 2022 (see “NYCC: VIZ Brings Back ‘Wolverine: Snikt!’”) and the one-shot manga was number 7 on BookScan’s list of the Top 20 manga in the book channel for June 2023 (see “June 2023 Circana BookScan”).
The Great Yokai War: Guardians manga, by writer Yusuke Watanabe and artist Sanami Suzuki, originally ran in Shonen Ace magazine in Japan and is complete in three volumes. The story follows a schoolboy, Kei, who is descended from a legendary monster hunter and is summoned by the guardian spirits of Japan to save the city from an attack by a giant yokai (spirit). It is adapted from the 2021 film of the same name, which itself is a sequel to 2005’s The Great Yokai War. The first volume will be released on November 14, 2023, with an MSRP of $12.99.
Tengen Hero Wars, by writer Yasu Hiromoto and artist Kubaru Sakanoichi, sends a teenage brother and sister into an alternate reality where the great warriors of history, including Napoleon, Julius Caesar, and Zhuge Liang, are engaged in a series of battles to see who is the greatest of them all. The series is ongoing, with four volumes out so far in Japan. Titan will publish the first volume on January 16, 2024, with an MSRP of $12.99.
Although it has been publishing manga for some time, Titan officially launched its manga imprint in 2022 (see “Titan Launches New Manga Imprint with ‘Afro Samurai’”).
