It's cold outside, but Hollywood news is warming up for 2024. It's time for a round-up.

Disney+ pulled the plug on the American Born Chinese series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The series, based on Gene Luen Yang's award-winning original graphic novel (see "Interview with Gene Luen Yang"), ends after just one season on the streamer, but Disney’s 20th Television, which produced the series, plans to shop it to other channels, according to the report.

The live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho debuted strong; it was the most-watched non-English language show for the week of Dec. 18 to 24, according to the LA Times, and #5 its second week, according to Netflix.  The series was announced way back in 2021 (see "Netflix Live Action Titles").

Steven Yuen has exited the Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts movie, according to Variety.  It is not clear whether or not his role will be recast.  The movie is due out on July 25, 2025 (see "Marvel and Disney Rescheduling").

Universal Pictures added new cast to their How to Train Your Dragon live action project (see "Live Action Films"), according to Deadline.  Gerard Butler will reprise his role as Hiccup's father Stoick.  He joins Mason Thames and Nico Parker, who star as Hiccup and Astrid, and the movie is slated to come out on June 13, 2025.

Focus Features released a new trailer for Lisa Frankenstein (see below).  This movie is a horror romantic comedy take on a girl and her Victorian corpse boyfriend who was brought back to life through mysterious circumstances.  It stars Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse and will hit theaters on February 9, 2024.

Cindy Morgan recently passed away on December 30, 2023, according to Variety.  She was best known for her role as Lora/Yori in Tron and as Ma3a in the Tron 2.0 video game (see "Tron"), and as Lacey Underall from Caddyshack.  She was 69 years of age at her time of passing.
